Breaking Down The Walls is one of Central’s most recognized clubs. It has become so popular that it recently split into two sub-clubs. Last month it became nationally recognized and sent seven students to Washington D.C. for the LEAD D.C. conference.

The group of students that attended included two seniors, four juniors, and one sophomore. Although Breaking Down The Walls is an anti-bullying club, this was a general leadership conference. Megan Arbor, junior attended the conference and explained the activities in which she participated.

“In DC, we heard speakers who talked about the importance of rising up and leading,” Arbor said. “I also went to hear a middle school principal speak about the ladder of leadership.”

The conference included schools from all over the country. Jake Hyland, senior, explained the diversity.

“There were about 1200 kids at the conference from 32 states and seven different countries like Bermuda and China,” Hyland said.

With so many students, it was easy to make new friendships.

“We also got the opportunity to do ice breakers with kids from all over the country, even the world,” Arbor said.  “I got the chance to get to know a guy named Eduardo from Columbia.”

When they weren’t conferencing, students were able to enjoy some free time in the Nation’s capital.

“We also did a day of touring around DC,” Hyland said. “Because of Sean O’Donnell’s connections, we got a private tour of The Department of Justice and a tour of the Pentagon. It was super cool to see all of D.C. in person.”

Students were in D.C. for three days, and their trip was provided by their own fund raising and Central Boosters.
