On Thursday, Feb. 26 and Friday, Feb. 27, the Business Professionals of America state competition took place in Oak Brook, Ill. Central placed highly in many of the categories.

Some of the winners included Steven Chun, senior, who placed first in extemporaneous speaking, along with second in video production with senior Liam Jones, sophomores Kunal Jobanputra, Carolyn Chun, and Meera Krishnan won first place as a global marketing team, and seniors Satya Krishnan, John Bomba, Simran Jobanputra, and Isabella Anastassoff placed second in small business management.

According to Krishnan, Central performed very well at the competition. “The competition was very tough this year,” Krishnan said. “Even though the competition was so tough, we had many people place very highly and ended up with a very strong showing.”

Along with these top state finishes, Central qualified with more than 20 individuals for the national competition, which will be taking place in Anaheim, Calif. in May. Spirits are very high, as members of BPA hope for the success and hard work to continue.

“We usually do really well as a school at state, and we were able to have about 20 something people qualify for nationals again,” Bomba said. “It was less than last year, but we’re happy with how we did and that we will be well-represented at nationals.”
