After capturing back to back West Suburban Conference Championships for the first time in over a decade, the Red Devils boy’s basketball team continued their recent hot streak on Wednesday night as they took home a 63-60 win over Proviso East in the WSC crossover game.

Senior Chase Hamilton led the Devils with 18 points while Ian Bunting, senior, added 12 points, 10 of which from the free throw line.

The score teetered back and forth throughout the game, but up by four points midway through the fourth quarter, Proviso East slowed down the pace in order to hang on. However, Central regained the lead, mainly from the charity stripe, and a potential game tying the Pirates’ three pointer fell short with about two seconds left.

The Devils are now riding an eight game win streak heading into the 4A playoffs; the IHSA seeded them at No. 4 in the East Aurora sectional. Tuesday night at 7 p.m., they face off against winner No. 13, Hinsdale South, and No. 20, Downers Grove North.

In the Devils’ first meeting against Hinsdale South this season, Central fell 65-63 in double overtime despite 19 points and seven rebounds from Matt Rafferty,  junior. This was the season opener for both squads, and the two teams have grown significantly since.

Central defeated DGN in both of the teams prior encounters this season. First they were victorious, 59-35, at home and then went on the road to win 58-31.

Still on an adrenaline rush from the trip to LT, the student section, nicknamed Code Red, is expected to be out in full force to start the playoffs. They have chosen the theme, ‘Beach Day,’ so bring your swim trucks and sand pales.
