The varsity girls’ basketball season came to a close on Feb. 24, as the Red Devils fell to Trinity, 73-44, in the Class 4A Whitney Young sectional semifinal.

Senior Gabrielle Rush, the Devils’ all-time leading scorer, scored 18 points, including 6/6 from the charity stripe.

“We have had a tough schedule with a lot of ranked opponents so we’re just trying to get better each practice and game and take it one day at a time and just focus on winning that day,” Rush said at the end of the regular season.

Just a few days prior, the No. 6 seeded Devils captured the Morton regional championship with a 77-63 win over Proviso East. Rush poured in a career high 40 points in Central’s huge win.

“I think I’ve improved my game like being able to create shots off the dribble when I don’t have open three’s and being able to drive and kick to my teammates when the defense collapses,” Rush said.

The Devils finished their season with a 21-10 record. This concluded the final season for seniors Gabrielle Rush, Emma Day, Katie Callahan, Payton Katich, and Suzanne Skibicki.
