Girls’ Basketball warms up before their Nov. 26 game.

On Dec. 8, Girls’ Basketball lost to Proviso West 51-47 bringing their record to a promising 7-3.

The Red Devils opened up the season with a five game win streak before their first loss to Montini Catholic on Nov. 26. There is no shortage of optimism on this team and teamwork has proven to be a key factor in their success early on.

“We have great team chemistry and are definitely a family both on and off the court,” said Elle Schaefer, senior.

Along with their early success, the girls seem to be enjoying the process. High spirits and dedication during practice are translating into noticeable results on the court.

“This season we are playing really well as a team. Everyone is super supportive [and] we are learning to share the ball really well. We work hard in practice but also have fun,” said Paige Bareck, senior. “I’m really excited to play with this team and this year I think we have something really special.”

Head Coach McKenna has taken a simple but effective approach to putting a winning product on the court.

“Sharing the ball, transition and fast breaking, and making playing hard a key ingredient,” Coach McKenna said.

In the near future, the team hopes to win the Wheaton North Holiday Tournament. Long term, they aim to take home the West Suburban Conference Championship.

On Dec. 13, Girls’ Basketball will face Proviso West at 7:30 p.m. at home in the main gym.
