The boys’ track team found success last year with multiple players running in the state tournament. This spring the team hopes for the same success under the new head coach, Mr. Lawrence.

It’s 2016 and that means two things: cold weather and the beginning of the track season. Most people would assume track begins in the spring, however, indoor track begins in January and lasts until the spring season begins. Thus, the indoor season is fast approaching, and the coaching staff of the team has seen some changes, including a new head coach.

Last year, the track team was under the command of Coach Lupres, and the team found great success throughout the year. Nonetheless, Coach Lupres became the assistant coach this year while Coach Lawrence took the head coaching job. Since both coaches are still a part of the team, the change likely won’t affect the players as much.

Senior track star Kareem Muhammad knows the change will not hinder the team in achieving their goals.

“I have a different coach for my event,” Muhammad said. “The change won’t have much of an effect on my performance.”

Muhammad ran at state last year, and hopes to find similar success this year.

Christian Bobak, senior, ran on the same relay team as Muhammad and believes the coaching change can only have positive effects for the team.

“Both coaches run the team well and know what they’re doing,” Bobak said. “The team will be run similarly.”

Although the players for this year’s track team will have to compete under a new coach, it is clear that the move will not have any negative effect on the student athletes.
