On Friday, Jan. 19, the wrestling team faced Downers Grove North in the main gym. Though the team lost overall, they look for success on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Regionals.

On Thursday, Jan. 25, the boys wrestling team went to York High School for a dual match. The Red Devils pulled ahead with a 55-24 win.

Multiple wrestling matches occur at the same time, as there are many wrestlers on each team.

The Red Devils have a few wrestlers who have their hopes set on going to the State meet and placing.

“My goal this season is to win the State,” said Liam Drury, senior and varsity team member. “The season has been going pretty well for me; I’ve only had a few close losses to some top-ranked kids, but I’ve had to battle through some adversity to beat them.”

A high point of the match was when Luke Skokna, junior and varsity team member, took down his opponent with a technical fall 24-8. A technical fall is when a player is winning by 15, so they stop the match. To achieve success, Skokna has a few pre-match rituals.

“Before matches, I say a quick prayer and then hit a dynamic warm-up with some headphones in,” Skokna said.

The next match is coming up on Saturday, Feb. 3. It is the individual Regionals meet, the meet that determines which wrestlers will go to Sectionals, so the team is hoping to find more success.
